Paten vs pattens

March 04, 2015 08:18PM
That's funny. Since in Hungary we (that is, Catholics who are somewhat knowledgeable about being near the altar) call "paten" patena and it's supposed to be Latin... so it must be a coincidence in English. I didn't know what pattens were and I'm hard pressed to recall what the Hungarian translators did with "pattens" since I haven't ever heard of an equivalent being used in 19th century Hungary. Now there is something to look up, if I can spare the time!
