We do masks now. They're compulsory in public transport, any sort of shop and most public buildings, plus of course any place that asks you to don them.
I think there have been varying reports on how effective they are, from them being the be-all and end-all to pandemic protection, to no effect whatsoever, but my reasoning is, they do little harm, once you're used to them (save for people who may get claustrophobic triggers or breathing problems, and they can get exceptions) and if they prevent even one infection, then I'm all for it. Plus, with a mask, at least you're reminded not to touch your face.
I think I read somewhere to think of it as like if someone pees on you in public. If you're not wearing any trousers, and they aren't either, you'll get wet. If you're wearing trousers, and they aren't, you'll get a little less wet. If you're wearing trousers and so are they, you'll hopefully get only a very little wet, or stay dry.
I only wish I looked less like a nurse in a cheap horror movie with one. (the kind that appears in the protagonist's vision with a large drill and a saw, and says 'Ze doctor vill be viz you shortly ...')
