You should do what is right for you, 100%. I loved the original draft but I'm enjoying the additional information. For example, I didn't get in the original that sister Elisabet was an imaginary figure.

The thing is that although the original didn't flow as well, I attributed that kind of thinking to a child, whose point of view you are writing.
