Thanks for the feedback. Do you think there's too much dialogue now? In the first versions, much of it was the child's summary of the events (in her own words).

I think it comes down to making a choice: commercial (readability, story progression, sequential, etc.) vs. literary (rambling, episodic, what have you).

I'll probably end up self-publishing the book when I finish it. I'm not working with a publisher, but an editor/writer in the UK.

The good news is that she told me it sounds very British for that time period and only a few Americanisms crept in and so I fixed those things.
