A suggestion for a theme:

“That which walks in Betton Wood
Knows why it walks or why it cries.”

(M. R. James, A Neighbour's Landmark)

So what - or who - is it that walks Betton Wood? And why?

Is this a ghost story with which Mr Crawford chooses to frighten the young ladies at Mansfield Park?
Is Betton Wood the forest adjacent to Lady Catherine De Bourgh's beautifully landscaped gardens - and if so, why are its shades thus polluted?
Has Colonel Brandon taken to roaming Barton - sorry, Betton - Wood in his sleep? Or was it Marianne after all?
Or Sir Walter Elliot, mourning the loss of his fortune and consequence?
Or ... maybe something else entirely?
