Thank you Kalee, for your interpretation. It is not entirely new. There have been stories exploring various alternative readings and events. Something that ought to be mentioned also with respect to Lady Russell's caution is that Anne could have got pregnant during the first weeks/months of marriage. If so, she would have been on her own while she was pregnant and giving birth and Wentworth at sea. Death in childbirth was unfortunately very common, so that was an added consideration not to get married before they were more secure financially and socially. Don't forget Sir Walter was not going to give his consent and not giving Anne her dowry. Waiting until she was of age was the sensible thing to do. As for Alan's comment about it not being very romantic to say that she did not regret taking Lady Russell's advice: Anne is supremely honest. Why wouldn't she say so?
