I get the feeling you are putting words into my mouth here Agnes.
Firstly, I am talking fan fiction but using basic canon. I am also offering alternate scenarios as per Peter's story. That said, I have no cause to withdraw what I said which was that Darcy's case was finally won by Lizzie's realisation of his kindness. Lizzie was never in any way linked with local suitors in P&P,( although had Darcy not appeared she may well have been so. Both hers and Jane's options were a little thin on the ground I'd say) that's just suggested scenarios and my statement was metaphoric. I simply stated ( quite clearly) that Darcy's case was won by Lizzie finding out about his action when he had no intention of that happening. It's also true that local suitors were hardly likely to be able to afford travelling two hundred miles and paying off Wickham's debts as Darcy did. None of that is untrue or incorrect as I see it? The deciding factor was Lizzie's not Darcy's as he didn't think she would find out about his actions and was disappointed when she did, thinking Aunt Gardiner had disclosed it intentionally. As far as I can see none of my comments contradict each other? Darcy also freely admitted doing what he did solely for Lizzie and no other reason. Hope this clears things up.
I do wonder how he would have proposed again had Lizzie not discovered his part in it all and thanked him so effusively giving him an opening, but that's another story.
