An interesting observation Peter; I've often wondered about Caroline Bingley's future. Jane Austen boxed her off pretty quietly, but in reality I hardly saw her as content to watch from the sidelines on anything and unless she suffered a major attitude change would hardly be a blushing bride promising to love and obey anyone. The bit about her future husband where he says "and with all my worldly goods I thee endow" ( Don't forget, we're back in 1817 or so), she would probably embrace with open arms, but she would most likely be looking for a Duke or Baronet at the very least. I get mental images of her visiting the Darcys' and Lizzie getting so fed up with her constant adoration pantomime around Fitzwilliam that she finally loses it and wallops Caroline with a ripe kipper. Yeah....! (-:
