I thought that subject line would get your attention! But really: I need help coming up with a slang term appropriate to Regency England. Specifically, Wickham walks out of an inn in a nasty mood and takes a kick at a street urchin who has the misfortune to fall in his path. So far I have, "Get out of my way, you filthy little rat!" which feels pretty weak. I'm not looking for offensive curse words, but rather a bit of cant that will indicate to Elizabeth (who, of course, overhears him) that Wickham is actually very coarse even though he can assume the veneer of a fine gentleman. Suggestions?
Thanks, Jean
