Thanks for the commentss Jim. You obviously know Holmes well.

What has to be remembered also is that Holmes had read the stories prior to his assesments and knew the outcome and ending. He did not let this affect his initial views though. I used those views as a conduit to highlight Jane Austen's talents in several areas. As well as her brilliant character creation, she doesn't waste time on things that are unimportant and keeps focus on the core elements. Her taking people away for a time is one example. I also used Holmes to ask a few pertinents questions which even he could not answer; only Jane Austen could have done that, so they must remain as mysteries. I shall post on your favourite, Persuasion, hopefully tomorrow. Regards,
