I'm not a Trollope fan but I've poked around ecclesiastic architechtural history a bit, such would be some, at least, of the houses in the Cathedral close in which Miss Marple grew up...
there are some tied cottages now gifte shoppes right beside Canterbury Cathedral, some were dedicated to particular jobs, but some of the jobs were sinecures.
