Braveheart, a possible about William Wallace, who if I got my dateline right, came about 60 years after the Magna Carte. He started as an ordinary seeming guy, wanted his farm, a Mrs., and kids, but some English noble got a fancy for "Murren," the clandestinely wed Mrs. Wallace, and when she rebuffed the bureaurat, he had her tied to a post, slit her throat, and thus murdered her. William Wallace decided "Mr. Nice Guy" is no longer applicable. I forget the name of the evil king of England (an "Edward" with a last name that was unfamiliar), but apparently the Magna Carta may not have applied to Scots. Wallace was executed in 1314, according to the story.
That story certainly gave priviledge to English noblemen who were stationed in Scotland. Would not take much to bodge a Halloween story out of a real - life horror. Now, how does a JA character/ancestor fit? Pemberley is in Derbyshire, which is just south of Yorkshire, of strong Scot influence, if I understand right from a lot of BBC programming. "Robin Hood" of Nottingham would have been a little bit easy of Pemberley.
Any plot bunnies out of this musing?
