Re: Bezerkley, you mean?

April 29, 2015 07:46PM
I was an undergrad at "The Ohio State University" (never could figure out why they insisted on that definite article - it wasn't as if there was another one), so I had plenty of misery in getting my BSc. I was there for two and a half years and endured a period of over 200 days in a row where the sun was not visible (and plenty of subzero weather; the last year there was snow on the ground - though only under trees by then - the last day of May and by June 3rd it was 100 degrees: spring lasted for about 5 seconds). I've never been colder than when getting hit by the 'breeze off Lake Michigan' in the winter, but Chicago vs Columbus for "dreary and boring"? No contest.

My first year at Stanford it was 75 degrees and sunny every single day in January and 'winter' was over by March 1, so I decided to never leave.

As to Jane Austen in the modern world: she might easily be a lawyer or a physicist. If she didn't need to 'find an outlet' for creativity and instead could just exercise it naturally, there is no telling what she would have done.
