Re: The Dreadful Black --- (Udolpho, SPOILERS)

I thought the book was silly from start to finish. All the characters were so silly - the heroine annoyingly virtuous, the hero a dope, the villian exaggeratedly evil. I kept reading in the hope that it would get better, and was seriously annoyed when it did not. No wonder JA mocked it. I should have read "The Monk" instead - I think that horrible things actually happen in that story.
