I am a bit tired, Yet happy.
How weird is that?
Currently my house smells like burnt oatmeal cookies, and coincidentally enough, I have been making cookies with the love of my life earlier today.
Life is the weirdest thing ever. And yet, it's also the coolest thing ever. Let me tell you about my day.
My day started normally enough with my father calling me at 9 to tell me about the Tigers game he attended last night.
My favorite pitcher, Justin Verlander had thrown a no-hitter and I was quite thrilled to hear about it.
And at noon, William called to ask if he could come over for a few hours. I consented quite happily to the scheme since I haven't got to spend much time with him this week.
When he came in, he found me busily assembling the ingredients for oatmeal cookies on the counter while humming to the song on my iPod.
I found the look on his face in that moment to be very gratifying for my vanity, since he is still a bit shy about complimenting me most of the time.
Things had gone quite happily from there, since I got to tell him all about the game while making the cookie dough. When they put the first trays in the oven, we relaxed on the couch, still chatting about our families and stuff, holding hands all the while.
During the course of their conversation, while discussing her baby niece in fact, I apparently gave him the most beautiful smile he'd ever seen (or so he says, I have my doubts though. Considering the amount of dental work I've had in my lifetime). This reduced him to such a puddle of mush that he blurted out a proposal before he could stop himself.
It had been something on the lines of; "Marry me?" though of course, he blushed quite profusely while still trying to regain his equilibrium.
I was, naturally, quite shocked, though quite happy at the same time, as he has only been courting me for 2 weeks, so I didn't think he would propose so soon. I told him calmly and seriously. "Yes."
He stared at me in complete, dumbfounded, slack-jawed shock. I grinned at his expression, suddenly finding the situation to be slightly humorous.
He then regained his composure and asked, "Do you really mean it?"
I nodded eagerly and smiled at him in complete happiness.
However, I also felt bound to warn him, "My older brothers will be putting you through a rigorous lecture on propriety. And probably will be threatening you with serious bodily harm, should you hurt me, physically, or emotionally. Since they weren't able to do that to Charles because Jane is the oldest, could you please humor their wish to do this?"
He replied with "I'll be doing the same thing to any of my sister's suitors. How could I object to them doing the same thing?"
After that rather scintillating conversation, we'd talked more, and had our first kiss. After that we realized we had forgotten the cookies in the oven.
But alas, we could not save them, as they were scorched and black and flooding the kitchen with smoke. At least the smoke alarms didn't go off.
While cleaning off the cookies trays in preparation for the next batch, William's cell phone had rang and so he went onto the porch to answer it. A few minutes later, I heard him yelling, and ran outside to see what was wrong.
Before I could even ask, he had told me what was wrong. His younger sister Georgiana had just been kidnapped by some b* * * * *d drug dealer, and his parents wanted him home right away because apparently he'd known the guy when he was in high school, and had tried to get him locked away after he tried to force a younger girl to sleep with him.
The news was sickening. Especially when I thought about how sweet and innocent Georgiana really is. Without any further thought I just held Will close, knowing how badly he reacts to anything hurting his younger sisters.
I didn't want him driving because he was so agitated. So I bundled him into my car and started driving towards his family's home before he even realized that he was in the car. I have to admit I was shocked at how grey he seemed, and how he didn't seem to hear me till I placed my hand on his. I drove one-handed the rest of the way to the Darcy's home.
When we arrived, he got out on his own, without my prompting. Mr. and Mrs. Darcy and Lydia, Erika, and Aaron were waiting on the porch for us. They all seemed to be in a state of shock.
I asked, "Have you guys heard anything else since you called?"
They all just shook their heads.
Mr. Darcy asked, "Have y'all got any news for us?" and blushing, I realized we were still holding hands.
William told him, "Yes sir, I have proposed to Elizabeth, and she has accepted. I'll be asking for her father's permission when we go to dinner next week."
A faint smile appeared on the faces of the others, and they all gave us congratulations.
After that, we all went into the house. About a half-hour later, the police called and told us that they were sending an officer over.
His name was Officer Nielson. He asked us if we knew any more information about Georgiana's kidnapper. Will told him about what happened in high school. Officer Nielson asked if Will thought Wickham would want revenge for that. Will thought about it for a moment, and answered, "Yeah, Wickham pretty much declared an all-out war on me after that."
Officer Nielson asked, "Did Wickham ever see you with your younger sister?"
Will said, "I don't believe so, unless he ever followed me home, Though my whole family came to my graduation." Slightly frustrated now, Will said, "But it's been 6 whole years since I got him in trouble, and he didn't even get arrested for his attempt! Though I still believe he should have."
About 5 seconds after Will's answer, the phone in the front hall was ringing again. Mrs. Darcy grabbed the cordless off the coffee table in front of her and answered it, "Hello? GEORGIE! How are you calling us?" Mrs. Darcy's eyes widened considerably while listening to the phone, she finally asked, "Where are you? Okay, okay, we'll be there just as soon as possible, babydoll. Stay calm. "
Officer Nielson left right after he understood that Georgiana was free.
Understandably, we were all confused by what we heard Mrs. Darcy saying. As soon as she got off the phone, she was bombarded with questions about Georgie.
She explained it all: Apparently when Wickham kidnapped Georgiana he had neglected to search for and take any weapons on her. So she was able to use her Swiss Army Knife to cut through the weak knots Wickham used (Apparently he wasn't a Boy Scout). So when she freed her hands and feet she immediately got her knife into slashing position around Wickham's throat and ordered him to pull the van over to the side of road, unless he wanted to die. She took his cell phone and called her parents and the police as well. She also asked if her family could come to the police station with her while she gave a complete statement as to what she had gone through.
I never knew that Georgiana kept a knife, in fact I would have never guessed, because Georgie has such a calm and sweet demeanor much like my oldest sister Jane.
When we arrived to pick up Georgiana, she had just finished her statement. The police recommended that she get a check-up done by a doctor, just to make sure Wickham didn't do anything to her.
Georgiana perked up when she saw Will and me holding hands. Before she even asked Will said, "Yes Georgie, We're engaged!"
Then she was bombarded by hugs from all sides, it was a touching classic family feel-good moment. I stayed back a little bit to give them some space.
After Will made sure his little sister was okay, he came and stood next to me and we just held hands for a while, and looked at each other a lot, not needing to speak right now.
So yeah, today life has been weird, and cool. But my favorite part was just holding his hand and being there for him. Now we just have to tell my family (and keep my brothers from scaring him off)...
