Part XXI
Elizabeth and Darcy finally made it to her office. She gave him a little privacy so he could remove his clothes and put on the hospital gown. Darcy still felt a little uneasy at appearing in his black Calvin Klein's before the chiropractor, even thought he understood that she needed some freedom of motions. If only she was not so attractive!
Elizabeth came back into the room. Darcy was lying on his left side, facing the wall. His gown was untied, giving her a pretty good view of his muscular back. And what a back it was! Elizabeth couldn't remember seeing one more perfect: muscles well sculpted, but not too much, large shoulders, small waist, a little tan but not too much. It took her a few moments to tear her eyes from him, and to refocus her attentions on his actual troubles.
The chiropractor made a few orthopedic tests, to assess the condition of his back, pelvis and leg. From his rendition of the accident, she had immediately suspected a sacroiliac syndrome, and all the tests confirmed her suspicions. The minute she put her hand on his right buttock, he yelled in pain.
"I guess we've found the problem! The fall has caused your sacrum to go in an anterior position, putting your sacroiliac joint in tension, thus compressing the nerves. I will have to adjust you. As the traumatism is quite recent, you will probably experience some pain. I won't hide from you that the adjustment will probably be quite uncomfortable. However, this is a condition which responds quickly to adjustments, so you should be back on your feet quite soon."
Darcy looked Elizabeth straight in the eyes, his gaze intense. "I have perfect trust in you Doctor. You can do whatever you choose."
Lizzy was a little taken back by his civility. She had expected him to argue her diagnosis and her treatments. Instead, he simply gave her total latitude to treat him any way she pleased. Was this the man she despised, the man who dismissed her as being too young and inexperienced? Was this the proud and arrogant doctor who believed everything was his due? How could she understand him? He always acted as a jerk, and now he gazed at her with perfect trust in his eyes, even thought he was in pain. There was no trace of the arrogant doctor on his face. Might she have misjudged him, or was it just a temporary lull in his ordinary behavior?
While she positioned him correctly to perform the adjustment, her normally perfect concentration was shaken. She didn't know what to think of the totally new Darcy. She had never seen him thus before. And this body, oh this body! Elizabeth could feel her cheeks growing red just thinking of it. Being a chiropractor implies that you have to be in close contact with your patient. Your thoughts should always be on the adjustment, not on the muscular thighs of your patient! Elizabeth had to take a few deep breaths before being able to continue.
She put her hand on his buttock, and sensed him tightening under her warmth. As she leaned toward him in order to start moving the joint, she could smell his after-shave. She could see that he had closed his eyes. She moved closer and closer until she had the right tension in the joint. Their bodies were now millimeters from each other. She could sense his warmth. She then quickly and precisely dropped her full weight on him, in order to move the joint efficiently. A loud "crack!" could be heard. Darcy breathed instantly a sight of relief. The pain had finally gone away.
Author's note : An adjustment is the chiropractic manipulation of a joint in order to increase its mobility. The sacroiliac joint is located between the sacrum (last part of the spine) and the pelvis. It is situated in the middle of the buttocks. In order to perform an adjustment, the patient needs to lean on his side. The chiropractor places one of his knees between hers, and moves the leg upward to apply tension in the joint. She places her hand on his buttock, fingers pointing toward the head. She then climbs on the leg with her thigh, and descend with her full weight while rapidly contracting her pectoralis in order to push the bone. It allows the joint to regain his normal position, with a loud CRACK! This adjustment requires quite intimate contact, but I have to admit that I have never performed this adjustment in such a sensual setting!
