Should we go to the Tea Room? Very cute first video. We've also seen Edward Denham and Mayor Tom Parker. I wonder what they'll do with Sidney Parker, if anything? Since JA didn't have the chance to develop him at all....by Carol P - JAFF Library
Poor Darcy! I hope we'll see his turnaround to happiness as he watches and thinks about the subsequent videos! Of course, we all know how things turn out by ep. 98, but your exposition on his mental and emotional journey to the end of Lizzie's videos would be very welcome. Nice to see another LBD story from you!by Carol P - A Novel Idea
Ive read through 11, was thinking of starting a thread, but had a major operation yesterday (elective), doing fine but on pain Meds etc so probably wouldn't make much sense. I do hope some of the others in this group will comment so I can read and maybe have my memory jogged. I've been managing to keep up with new DWG posts, so would love to read others' observations.by Carol P - JAFF Library
What's the trepidation about? I thought this chapter was wonderful through and through! Am wondering about this statement of Mr. Bennet's though -- Quote“I am relieved to know that you have now discovered your mistake. It must be obvious even to those of the meanest intelligence that Mr. Darcy was never employed at Netherfield, but I did think you would find more pleasure in the news. But wasn't that Bingley's fortune that was invested to generate his 5000 pounds per year income? Didn't they have mortgages back then?by Carol P - Tea Room
I guess I knew that, but I'm mostly on an iPad these days, too lazy to go to the laptop most times, where copying and pasting is easy. I still haven't gotten the hang of it on a tablet. Excuses excuses. Well, I guess Sandpit is a little humorous, anyway. Is that what Sanditon really is? :-)by Carol P - JAFF Library
Yes, I was reminded of Darcy here too. However, this is an ideal I doubt Sir Edward is capable of achieving -- if the narrative voice's observations are correct, and I suppose they are. He can dream of being such a person all he wants, but if he doesn't have Darcy's integrity, he could channel the ideal in a very hurtful way.by Carol P - JAFF Library
Oh, lord...look what autocorrect did! So sorry, I meant Sanditon Group Read! Am joining those wishing for an edit function!by Carol P - JAFF Library
Okay, I'll add my second impression here on 7&8 (see my comment on thread below) and hope that Suzanne, Lise and others comment soon. I feel confirmed in my impressions of the characters being not terribly admirable, except Charlotte and Clara -- Clara, watch out for Sir Edward, keep away!! Diana Parker isn't quite as much of an invalid as she claims, if she could walk as swiftly as she did,by Carol P - JAFF Library
I want to reread ch. 7&8 before I comment more...but I'm starting to be sorrier than ever that JA died so young. There's not a whole lot more that could happen to be a real plot in only a few more chapters. One first impression I got from 7&8 that I also got from the first time I started Persuasion (needed to restart that one a few times before I made it all the way through) is that, excby Carol P - JAFF Library
Yay, I was finally right about something, Gigi Darcy = Charlotte Heywood!by Carol P - JAFF Library
I found it pretty funny that Jane repeated Aunt Gardiner's words from P&P to Lizzy here, with Darcy the subject and not Wickham! I believe that Darcy's meditating an offer to Elizabeth right now, given that he took pains to describe Pemberley to Mr. Bennet, whereas he usually wasn't one to boast about his possessions. Here's hoping for the continuing low-angst light touch for this story! Wby Carol P - Derbyshire Writers' Guild
I thought exactly the same thing when I read the bits in both chapter 5 and 6 about how Sanditon really doesn't need any doctors, according to everyone but Mr. Parker. Even today, when most of them are competent, one can get very tired of being poked and prodded. Imagine how it was back then, when much of what they did didn't help at all, and even actually harmed. A couple years ago I was with a friend on a rural road outside the town where I live, she was driving her big white Lincoln. We were brought to a complete halt by a large goose that came up the bank of a nearby creek at us. Kept flying at the headlights and grill, trying to bite, and since we didn't want to kill the blasted thing it took us 15-20 minutes to drive around it and get away. If all this happened during their courtship, I'm afraid of what will happen at Pemberley! (No more hornets at least, please...poor Mr. Darcy, Sr.) It's a good thing that both Lizzy and Darcy are such good sports. Not to mention Mr. and Mrs. Gardiner, getting their niece back each day, sporting the effects of the couple's adventures. What fun, Suzanne! Thanks for sharing this. Despite your warning, I was all ready to watch ep. 84 again, to see whether there were any jump cuts at the points where Lizzie might have blamed Darcy for the Lydia-Wickham fiasco, then deleted her cutting remarks before posting to the world. The "nightmares" seemed very realistic! Poor Darcy! I also like your take on the search for Wickham. There had to be a reason why finding him was crucialby Carol P - A Novel Idea
I'm having trouble searching it on YouTube, but the video is posted on her Tumblr: http://eyrequotes.tumblr.com/ This is actually the second episode -- her first was a kind of artsy, atmosphere setting video, where you heard her talk but didn't see her. And the vlog on Tumblr is full of artistic photography and so on, along with LBD gifs here and there. Very interesting -- playing off Jane'sby Carol P - Tea Room
Today i discovered the two episodes of a modernization of Jane Eyre on YouTube. No, this is not a Green/Su production, there is a whole group of names I'm not familiar with listed as producer, director, etc. So far, there are two actors listed, one as Jane and one just a picture of John Reed. It's actually quite well done. Jane (a not-pretty and not-ugly girl, just as the one in the book) seemsby Carol P - Tea Room
The more I read about Clara's background, the more I hope she and Charlotte will be friends. If Mr. Parker is to be believed (and I put no absolute trust in his opinions!) she's a sweet girl who deserves the good fortune of being taken in by Lady Denham. Not much said yet about Miss Denham, the current baronet's sister. Just little clues about Sydney Parker (that's the brother's name, right?) --by Carol P - JAFF Library
Okay, I've decided to start this. (Did we ever formally appoint a moderator? If so, please forgive me for overstepping!) I'll admit I've only read part of chapter 3 so far, RL keeps getting in my way. But first impressions, to be modified as needed by subsequent reading.... Lady Denham and Mr. Parker at first seemed to have something of a Lady Cat/Mr. Collins relationship...but as the chapteby Carol P - JAFF Library
I was really scared for Elizabeth when that human beast grabbed her, was afraid she'd be compromised. For that matter, I was scared for Darcy when Miss Bingley came to talk to him and shut the door to the room, I was afraid HE'D be compromised! And I loved Darcy and Elizabeth defending each other by turns.... But the best part is your dialog -- I enjoy it when you write lines without attributiby Carol P - Derbyshire Writers' Guild
Could someone clarify for me when we agreed to start talking about new chapters? Every Monday? Monday the 8th, chapters 3 and 4? I've started the first few pages of chapter 3 and have some observations about the Mr. Parker/Lady Denham relationship, hopefully RL won't reach out and swallow me again and make me forget my first impressions!by Carol P - JAFF Library
It may depend on how much succeeding chapters are from Charlotte H's point of view. Now I'm motivated to read on! Am already trying to imagine what the first couple vlogs of the Sanditon mini-series might be like.by Carol P - JAFF Library
Oh, no, please stay -- as Suzanne and Mari have suggested, we can move the LBD discussion elsewhere. What are your impressions about Sanditon chapters 1 and 2? When are we supposed to start talking about the next two chapters? Next Monday?by Carol P - JAFF Library
Gigi Darcy is the reason we're all reading Sanditon all of a sudden! In Lizzie Bennet Diaries which just ended last Thursday after a year-long You Tube run, she's the younger sister of William Darcy, CEO of Pemberley Digital. Now she's going to Sanditon to test some new software PD is promoting. Oh well -- check out www.lizziebennet.comby Carol P - JAFF Library
I don't see any reason why they couldn't do both. LBD was a comedy/romance, now it's Gigi's turn? I haven't read farther than Chapter 2 of Sanditon yet -- I'll be interested to see what JA was able to foreshadow in what she did manage to write before her death. :-( However, the Sanditon Vlog writers will probably want to finish the story, so maybe there'll be a HEA for Gigi as there was in LBDby Carol P - JAFF Library
On the length of time being laid up because of a sprain...I had the same "bemusement" when reading Jack Caldwell's Mr. Darcy Came To Dinner, in which poor Darcy broke his leg and was stuck at Longbourn for a month. Nowadays no one would be off their feet for longer than a day or two with either injury. I believe it had to do with the state of medical science at that time, and also the state ofby Carol P - JAFF Library
Maria's function in LBD was to get Charlotte to call Lizzie after some weeks of silence, leading to repairing their friendship. Admittedly a small role that could have been left out, but wasn't. I wonder how far ahead the LBD producers were looking and planning for another adaptation back when the Maria videos were made. Now, seeing Maria's tweets and having just about finished Northanger Abbeyby Carol P - Tea Room
Lizzie just tweeted out several pictures of a dinner evening with her, Darcy, Charlotte, and Lydia. Ricky Collins crashes it. The looks on Darcy's face are priceless! Have a look at lizziebennet.com if you don't subscribe to Lizzie's Twitter -- the right column part way down the page carries a Twitter feed for all the characters. Bonus!by Carol P - Tea Room
Jaimy -- I sympathize. I think...no, I know from personal experience, that traumatic life change events can affect creativity. I too used to be in other fandoms and was a pretty prolific contributor to fanzines, back in the pre-Internet Neolithic times. Afterward, I was writing my own stuff, for fun -- didn't intend to publish, just getting the ideas out of my head. But then my husband died, andby Carol P - Tea Room
