There was a ... someone some time ago, who liked me well enough for years and thought that for a long list of reasons, I was out of his reach. Thus, the idiot he was, he thought he could arrange it so that I become involved with his friend. He had forgotten it seems that it takes two to tango :) He wants the best for me, he also wants to make sure that I am truly out of reach by being unavailablby Maria V - Derbyshire Writers' Guild
This is indeed what puzzles me the most. He is a freak by his society's standards - a monster that would be shot on the spot. There is no way you can hide your form from a wife, and even if love doesn't become part of that union, you would destroy her life, fortune and reputation by her mere association with you. I would have expected Darcy to firmly believe that marriage is now out of his realmby Maria V - Derbyshire Writers' Guild
Indeed, nice changes and still in the spirit! I like the maid better than the barmaid, and the art restoration a smart idea to cut a whole part of the plot that may not have been strictly necessary. And I like the fact that we see glimpses of the Bennets early on (and their relationship with Elizabeth).by Maria V - Derbyshire Writers' Guild
By doing it at dinner, he contained the reactions of both. They cannot storm at each other and say something they'll regret. They are forced to shut up and listen (possibly to anything useful by others), think, possibly get the edge off their embarassment / anger, and then talk. Moreover, Elizabeth is unfairly angry at her dad. He did try to talk to her and he did not purposefully withhold inforby Maria V - Derbyshire Writers' Guild
Contrary to the popular opinion, I applaude Mr Bennet. He lanced the boil immediately. The longer Elizabeth kept her secret, the worse it would be. Rather than cruel, I ee his action as painful but necessary.by Maria V - Derbyshire Writers' Guild
I had that thought, that the valet was somebody from the household, just before the chapter went into it :-) Why do they not consider unhappy servants or the previous valet? The similarity in the looks?by Maria V - Derbyshire Writers' Guild
So who was that annoying young guy that bothered kitty in the library when ash coincidentally was there to save her? I need to read back!by Maria V - Derbyshire Writers' Guild
Swype... Tracking her!by Maria V - Derbyshire Writers' Guild
A proper visit after super was delayed due to a prolonged discussion and assistance with a slight illness. Elizabeth was returning home when panicked animals were fleeing the woods. W was wrecking her. Her mare and E panicked, fleed to the closest place around, N, where B opened the door as he had made sure that servants and family were away. Maybe he drugs the latter once a month.by Maria V - Derbyshire Writers' Guild
Since the mother is dead, I wonder what will prompt her to suffer modelling or whether that plot line is scrapped.by Maria V - Derbyshire Writers' Guild
I wonder if we should re-read all previous stories for hints of passing characters with a pollen allergy! He did seem vaguely familiar after all...by Maria V - Derbyshire Writers' Guild
Maybe the older brother proves sufficiently sickly :)by Maria V - Derbyshire Writers' Guild
What puzzled me (or what I am waiting for) was (is) the realisation that she can feel Wickham's presence. It took her a while to join the dots and realise that of course she can feel Darcy, because she connects to the wolf. Will she notice she feels Wickham and get a clue?by Maria V - Derbyshire Writers' Guild
It could be (in this story) as simple as follows: the steward is an employee of the owner and goes with the estate regardless of the presence of a tenant. HOWEVER, Mr Ex-Steward was very aware of his own mismanagement and stealing of funds, and was reasonably secure that once a tenant (Bingley) is present, the tenant will not fail to notice the attrocious state of the farmers' houses and bad manby Maria V - Tea Room
I hope the author responds... I took Mary as rather naive (thinking it was a competition, the early worm and all, slightly regretting Collins, not realising that Darcy did "look a lot at her sister" - as Jane did - or that he isn't set to marry a person on the merrit of her last name...) I took her as a naive person who "evaluated" the Collins situation and set about to do better this time. Theby Maria V - Derbyshire Writers' Guild

Oh, come on! You don't really believe that, do you? I can't speak of the feelings of people I do not even know (suby Maria V - Derbyshire Writers' Guild
Nicely summarised. That's indeed some of my view. In short, I don't see how this is the class-question only as was in the original, and as such I don't see this scenario as a reversal of roles. My text saying "It is that Elizabeth sees that based on what they know, they won't be able to survive on (AND she seems to blame herself also partially for that, as "she never helped in the kitchen or baby Maria V - Derbyshire Writers' Guild
Darcy being rich and Elizabeth being poor or Darcy being "high class" and Elizabeth "lower class" meant that they could act on feelings and they would have food on their table. In this story, it is not just the preceived class that is reversed (which I agree, it would be similar to the novel) but Elizabeth is still poor and Darcy poorer. So a match here is truly impossible due to financial reasoby Maria V - Derbyshire Writers' Guild
you know, I visited the site right now in order to ask you about this! I'm very happy this detective duo (or trio!) will be back! I do wonder if Jane will face ever any sort of self-doubts regarding her less conventional role as a female in those times, whether she will ever wish for some "lady-like" comportment or whether she is too sensible to waste time in such idle musings. Also, I wonder whby Maria V - Tea Room
Nice! It all depends on whether Darcy figures out in time what Elizabeth (or Meryton at large) thinks of his situation! It could definitely go the way you describe!by Maria V - Derbyshire Writers' Guild
Beautiful! He knows. She doesn't know he knows, and he probably won't tell anybody for a while, enjoying "the good joke or sport" of his neighbours (and family) making fool of themselves based on assumptions. The funny thing is that it seems clear from this chapter that Darcy is none the wiser! I wonder if we'll reach the stage of a proposal, where a tearful Elizabeth admits her feelings and reby Maria V - Derbyshire Writers' Guild
Also, they are followed by people on horses, which are faster than a carriage that cannot go as fast and has no reason to travel at an insane speed.by Maria V - Derbyshire Writers' Guild
I would really like to eventually get the whole backstory regarding at least the marriage... We get glimpses (which is totally perfect, as we see things from Anne's eyes) - but, still, I'm impatient :)by Maria V - Derbyshire Writers' Guild
(good twist though...) NOOOOOOOO!!!!by Maria V - Derbyshire Writers' Guild
My hopes are with Mr Bennet. As his dear wife would say, what a good joke would it be if he were to understand the true circumstances of Darcy and keep them hidden from both him and all his family! What would that help? Only his mood and possibly some damage control at the very end of straightening some ruffled feathers, whether those of his daughter or wife or future son in law :)by Maria V - Derbyshire Writers' Guild
"In the library, Elizabeth’s own nerves were in an awful state." --> music room? I wonder if Darcy will start reflecting upon Elizabeth's behaviour. Will he realise that the more he holds out, the more he risks that she will be convinced of his indifference? Or that even in the event that she cares for him, his supposed indifference will risk rising her bitterness (as one-sided affections maby Maria V - Derbyshire Writers' Guild
I had not realised that Darcy was not told by the footman that he is considered to be The Steward. I thought that his abrupt behaviour was due to having taken offence by the assumption and by his incredulity that a female could have actual business to discuss with him. I cannot wait to read the scene where he figures out what is being said about him! I do hope he uses this to his advantage andby Maria V - Derbyshire Writers' Guild
they have only just arrived. When did they have the time to build the underground cave, the path to the library and the mechanism to open it? Not that any of this matters! Batman and Darcy are simply to much fun to pick apart!by Maria V - Derbyshire Writers' Guild
well, two possible reasons i can imagine: a) my phone is old (samsung galaxy s2, so about 1.5 years), b) my phone was bought in europe (I've helped many US colleagues and friends with their phones, and even on a samsung, their menus were different). But at any rate, after some time, once you get to it, we'll be able to choose, so :):)by Maria V - Tea Room
