I really enjoyed this chapter, and the dynamic they've settled into! Frederick is too practical-minded and laid-back to enjoy life as a figurehead--whatever the content of his abdication speech, I hope he does not feel like a failure for that.
This line made me laugh: “'I put it in the washing machine,' he corrected." I'm with him--it always feels like I'm cheating to claim "I cleaned all the dishes and laundry today" when in fact a machine did all the work.
