In my defense of Elizabeth, I never meant to suggest that she was perfect -- and I very much like the Darcy who is drawn in this story. Yes, even in this chapter, where his arrogance and disdain is quite on display. As he says, he is what he is (I have to laugh at him even as I am shaking my head in this chapter and I felt sorry for him at the statement that he was feeling nervous), and I compliment the author for not succumbing to any impulse to change him beyond recognition, either from how we have known him here or how we tend to think of him from the original.
So, yeah, this is another fabulous chapter.
