I find it constantly amazing how you're keeping both Elizabeth and Darcy so much in-character to what we know about them while also revealing new little facets of their characters as they're developing in this story.
I'm a little disturbed at Wickham's behavior and I hope he doesn't try to cause trouble between Elizabeth and Darcy-- but I expect he will, of some sort. I only wish Elizabeth felt able to ask Darcy about Wickham herself! It also strikes me as a little odd that Darcy hasn't tried to warn Elizabeth away from Wickham, since he does know Elizabeth's "eager interest in [Wickham's] concerns" and that Wickham is in the neighborhood. I would think that Darcy would try to protect Elizabeth-- and the Bennets-- from Wickham; knowing Wickham as he does, why hasn't it occurred to him that his connection with the Bennets will make them tempting targets for Wickham's indirect revenge? Wickham tried it once-- and was fortunately foiled-- with Georgiana but I want to know why Darcy almost seems to have forgotten about Wickham's existence. Although I suppose it's possible that Darcy's been preoccupied with Elizabeth's feelings to the exclusion of everything else and that he might be avoiding thinking about Wickham as much as possible for his own peace of mind.
Can't wait for more! I keep going back and rereading the earlier chapters to tide me over while waiting. I can't seem to get enough of your writing.
