does "pinky swear/promise" exist in the UK?

March 17, 2012 09:52AM
A "pinky promise" is when two friends (usually children, but sometimes adults) link their little fingers together like a handshake, then they swear and make a promise. I know it exists in various forms in the U.S., Australia, Russia, and Japan, but does it also exist in the UK, and if so was it known in the Regency era?

Alternately, in the US, children sometimes swear promises to each other with a vow of "cross my heart and hope to die, stick a needle in my eye" if they break a promise.

Thank you!
