There is an element of cruelty in Mr. Bennet. He mocks his daughters and their mother and yet who is more responsible than he for their silliness. For such an intelligent man is always surprises me that he cares so litle for his own respectability as to allow most of his family to stand in such a clear statement of his failings. And yet he does and will always do so.
